Keyword density

Are you using the right words in the right amount?

📖 Detailed description

Keywords are the words people search for on Google. If you sell pizza in Krakow, your keywords are "pizza Krakow", "pizza delivery", and so on. You need to use them - but in moderation!

It is like salting soup - too little and it is bland, too much and it is inedible. People used to cram keywords everywhere (this is called "keyword stuffing"), but Google caught on to that long ago and penalizes it.

What matters now is naturalness. Use keywords where they fit naturally. Use synonyms and related phrases too - Google understands context and knows that "car", "automobile", and "vehicle" are similar things.

Most common problems

Too much repetition

The text sounds unnatural and Google may penalize it

Too few keywords

Google cannot tell what the page is about

The wrong keywords

You are using words nobody searches for

No variations

A single word form instead of several

How to fix it?

A density of 1-3% is a safe range

Use words naturally - write in plain language

Add synonyms and related phrases

Place keywords in your titles, headings, and first paragraph

Research what people actually search for (Google Trends helps)

Examples

Good example

Natural content where "pizza Krakow" appears 3-4 times per page

Bad example

Pizza Krakow is the best pizza Krakow. Order pizza Krakow right now!
